Our Quest
This logo reflects the maze of issues confronting air passenger flying within unfriendly, turbulent skies. Together, we hope to untangle this web of frustration by our providing sufficient knowledge and guidance to allow for an amiable problem resolution experience when difficulties arise with a given air carrier or regulator.

D. Lyle Elkins, LL.M.
(Admitted in MA, ME, DC & Nova Scotia)
My first employ and initial exposure to aviation was with the Royal Canadian Air Force, working in a control tower at Naval Air Station Shearwater, Nova Scotia. Thereafter, I was employed as an air traffic controller with the Ministry of Transport at Halifax Stanfield International Airport. After this employ, I completed my law studies obtaining a JD at California Western School of Law and an LL.M. in Air & Space Law at the Institute of Air & Space Law, McGill Law School, Montreal, Quebec. In 2005, I was admitted to the Nova Scotia bar; thereafter for five years I was a trial lawyer in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
While being an aviation and trial attorney, I was also employed as a flight instructor, charter, and airline pilot accumulating over 8000 flight hours flying various aircraft types from a Learjet to a Dash 8.
Now, semi-retired, I am again following my true passion, the aviation environment. In consequence, I dedicate much of my free time pursing the best interests of the air traveler.
With my having a firm foundation in the functioning of the aviation environment, I decided to form Air Travel Advocates, a non-profit organization. Its primary objective is to make use of my professional and life experiences and that of others to assist air travelers to understand and assert their rights and protections. Air Travel Advocates also seeks to address unresolved aviation safety issues.
Although I am an attorney, my intent is not to seek a fee for legal advice but to provide no charge information and guidance to air travelers so that they can ascertain if the airlines are providing the required passenger rights and safety protections; if an airline is not, guidance will be given to address same. This website hopefully will allow you to resolve your airline complaints; it is set up as self-help to allow you to file your own complaints and seek resolution of same. But, you can most certainly contact me for any needed guidance and explanations. And please note, this summary of your rights is just that: a summary; for the sake of brevity, this site presents an overview and is not all encompassing.
